Nearly 300 million tons of plastic waste is produced worldwide each year. While many used plastics are collected and earmarked for recycling the reality is that only 5% of plastics are actually being recycled. As much as 85% is ending up in landfills with over 11 million tons of plastic entering our oceans every year.
Over 100 million tons of fish are caught each year and it’s estimated that over 20% of the global catch is a result of overfishing, illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and in some countries closer to 50% of the total catch is a result of IUU practices.
